Last year, in December 2015 I suffered from nervous breakdown when my life halted at crossroads and I had to make the right choice. So, I quit my job in a way to nourish the plant of creative writing and here I am watering it with poetry and blogs.
The added influence of wandering travelers that I met the previous years, true-story based films and a sudden upsurge on the social media debating on finding the ‘real meaning of life’ and ‘be different’; needless to say that I was smitten hard by the overall concept of ‘follow your dreams.’
In between the self makeover process, I was reminded by the artistic duo that I had met a few months ago, hoping to feature their story but was unable to do. Well, realistic people have always triggered my soul and I couldn’t help but share their art to you.
This is Apoorva Dhar and Deepali Lokapur and they are wired to their art!
The North meets South couple, Apoorva and Deepali met in a 4×4 cubicle of their office in Mumbai when something else clicked for them- their mutual love for art. The couple soon left their jobs in pursuit of their dreams. Thereafter, they stumbled upon the wire wrapping technique and launched their label Wild Wirecraft.
“Quitting our jobs and starting from scratch in the art field with absolute no professional knowledge was a giant leap of faith for us. We knew we wanted to create something different and with multiple trial and errors, we finally got stuck with the wired craft,” said Apoorva.
There was a time when they faced challenges in a city like Udaipur where they had no prior connections in the similar field. They set up a small shop at Shilpgram through which they sourced raw materials from a local vendor and crafted unique jewelry using wires and metal plates. With time, their research and in depth knowledge about the art grew and today, their art sells on international platforms.
Through social media, both Apoorva and Deepali’s art has found a huge fan base including me. Deepali says, “It is imperative to never give up and believe in your dreams. There was a tough time that we faced during our initial days but with everyday experience, we took inspiration, dug deep into our creative instincts and created our jewelry.”
The couple has wired earrings, neck pieces, rings, pendants and even customized book marks and artifacts that are strictly handmade. The extensive range of jewelry is infused with the essence of nature in them while being surreal and magnificent. There is a touch of wilderness to the pieces that the couple creates expressing a hidden story in each.
My favorite being the statement pendant called the ‘Tree of Life,’ is a unique detailed piece which is one of their best sellers. With a huge success at the Lil Flea in Mumbai recently and on various social media platforms, the couple has evolved in their art brilliantly over the years creating something wired, something beautiful.
